I have found this to be the best of three different after-market TPMS that I've tried. This valve attachment location has proven more durable than the band technique. The simultanous four-time readout is more user-friendly than those readouts that require a button to be pushed repeatedly to change among multiple tires. Excellent product, works exactly as described.
After having read reviews and researched Hella TC-400 and Orange Electronic P409s kits, I decided on the P409s because it is less expensive, less complicated to install, displays 4 tire pressure readings simultaneously and has one small display unit (vs a display unit AND receiver that the TC-400 requires).I installed the sensors myself onto brand new 18" BMW aluminum alloys and had my shop use a dial-type torque wrench to torque the valves (included in the kit) down to 4 newton meters (~35 inch pounds), exactly as the Orange Electronic P409s manual states. If you don't have a dial type torque wrench (not clicker), then you'll need one to install this kit. I then had them mount the tires on and as soon as they pressurized the tires, the sensors turned on.The kit includes absolutely everything you need: valve cores, valve stems, valve stem caps that say (sensor inside), and sensors. This one gets only 4 1/2 stars because depending on where you place it, the display might not be readable in bright light conditions. However, the audible alarm will promptly alert you of anything headed south with your tire pressures.(UPDATE Dec 04, 2011: As of this date, I still own this Subaru and have put an ADDITIONAL 100,000 miles on it since the failure of the center differential that was suspected of being caused by one chronically low tire over the first 80,000+ miles under the most extreme of driving conditions with no hint of the second differential encountering a similar issue.While the potential consequences for damaging an expensive drive line component in an AWD system due to one low tire would appear to be arguable in theory as discussed by one knowledgeable commenter, the tolerances in today's AWD systems... First I would like to say that for those of you suggesting I get "real tire chains"... I have 2 pair that I've managed to get onto my tires exactly... never. If you'd like to buy 2 pair of 17" snow chains cheap just leave me a message, you can have 'em. "Real tire chains" might be great for some people, but if I can't get them on and off my car quickly and easily, they are useless to me.I live 1400 feet up a 2 and a half mile dirt/gravel road that stays ice and snow covered for weeks after there is no snow anywhere else in our county. I am a small business owner, so if I can't get to work, I don't get paid, simple as that. Excellent Engineering, but did not fit my wheels
I couldn't wait to get these, given Seattle's unexpected week of ice. The chains fit several tire sizes with clear instructions for removing 0 - 4 sizing clips for each size (all four for my 225/50-R17). These are as easy on/off as this video shows (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opugSM6xs58). No need to get knees wet, or lay on the ground.The chains ride only on the tread and not on the back of the wheel/tire, requiring no inside clearance. The thin cable chains add only about 10mm to the top clearance. The ice grips are aggressive and the chain angles will provide lateral slide resistance.The set came with the tools needed to remove the clips and mount the lugs. The clips are put on from the factory with something like "Lock-tite". Recommend a 7mm socket to replace the wrench and your own good set of metric Allen wrenches (3mm).Only problem was the lug locking mechanism was too shallow to fit my deeply recessed lugs on the standard wheels... Works as advertised, but check your lugnut/bolt size
The K-22s work just as advertised. It takes a little extra effort the first time or two, but once you get used to the system, these are the easiest chains to put on you'll ever own. The traction seems VERY good, and the chains tighten around the tire perfectly. It almost feels like they are part of the tire (which means them off sometimes takes a little effort - just be sure you have some gloves you don't mind getting a bit dirty)I drive a car with 21mm lugnuts. These ship with 17 and 19mm fittings, so be sure that if you have a car with larger lugnuts you get the adapter. (Prius owners, this means you). They are available from [...] if Amazon is sold out.I haven't had these for very long, but they seem to be very high quality. The warranty is 1 year, but I would expect them to last much longer. Tin-can to almost Mercedes feeling, no joke!
I've had the dynamat installed in my '04 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport for about a month now and it was well worth the effort. When I say effort, I tore out my entire interior to install this stuff. Inner and outer door skins, entire floor (doubled up in places), trunk (doubled up again), rear hatch, and under my hood. It took a total of about 17 hours to install and trashed my hands, cuts and sore for several days. I used the dynamat heavy-duty roller for most of the installation and the handle of the roller to push the material into tight crevacises. My entire car, exluding the roof, took 2 3/4 bulk packs. I still have some left over and trying to figure out what to do with it...The results: You could say I was skeptical like other users, mostly because I hadn't known anyone who used it or what dynamat was even made of really. It's basically sheets of tar (butyl rubber) backed with thick aluminum foil. This stuff is heavy, but pretty thin and tucks into tight places... Top to learn more
My doors go "kfump" now, instead of "klang"
I agree with the others; anyone who doesn't like this product must have installed it wrong.I have a 2000 Honda CR-V SE. I lined the underside of the hood, the entire roof, all four doors (inside the doors and the surface), much of the floor, the spare tire well, the rear quarters (inside, behind the rear speakers) and lots of the tailgate with two (2x) Bulk Packs (9 sheets each.) I had not planned to line the roof, but after gutting the seats, all trim panels, and all the carpeting it seemed worthwhile. I cannot explain how differently the vehicle sounds now. EVERYONE compliments it (including my wife, who could not understand why I was spending the time and money on the project in the first place, but now wants me to Dynamat her Solara!) The doors go "kfump". Knocking on the hood, roof, or doors sounds like hitting a solid wood desk. There are NO vibrations or rattles in the car whatsoever (I also got some cheap self-adhesive felt sheets from a hobby store and... Top to learn more
Expensive but Effective
I decided to go with Dynamat to reduce road noise in my Jeep Liberty as the all-terrain tires were unbearably loud at highway speeds after a few hours. Amazon had the best prices on the bulk packs by far so I bought two to cover all four doors and the floor of my Jeep Liberty. I ended up with two sheets (3 sq ft) left over which should be enough to cover the rear gate when I have an afternoon to kill. The metal backing is incredibly sharp and it conducts electricity, so a co-worker warned me to take great care to ensure that the wires do not come into contact with any of the edges. It's no easier on your finger tips either! I found out the hard way that you should not cover any contact points between the trim panels and doors if you want the panels to fit as snugly as they did before the installation. With the great care and lessons learned, all four doors took approximately 20 hours to install and the floor took close to 30 more. I'm certain an experienced... Top to learn more
