Well designed, well built, superb value
I collect knives, and in addition to the Spyderco Tenacious, I have three other "good" folders of about the same size & weight, suitable for every day carry. All are well regarded in their price classes ($40.00, $90.00 and $120.00).From among these choices, the knife that I am carrying most often these days is the Tenacious. Admittedly, a part of the reason for that is that this knife is newer than the others. But some new knives I have received over the years (Christmas, Birthdays, etc.) found their place in a drawer pretty quickly. Newer or not, I wouldn't carry this knife if I felt that it was notably inferior to the others.First, the blade: The Tenacious offers a hefty chunk of steel, especially compared to most other knives at this price point. The modified leaf shape, non-serrated design is very close to the optimal drop point style I prefer. Amazing knife, but has a downside.
I just got my Tenacious today, I don't have any long-term results yet so I will update as necessary. However I like this knife so much I felt the need to write down a review for it ASAP.First off, WOW! I am blown away at the amazing knife I got for only $32. I did a lot of looking around, reading reviews, checking out hundreds of youtube vids (big thanks to nutnfancy and cutlerylover for the wonderful knife reviews and insight!) and I figured I should give the Tenacious a try due to all the rave it gets around the net. I will say this, those rave reviews are not inaccurate! This thing is simply a LOT of knife with top notch quality for a unbelievable price. There is a few downsides though, one in particular with has soured the excellent experience I have had thus far, but overall the tenacious is worth well over the ~$30 it sells for. In fact this knife could easily sell at two or three times its cost and still be worth it (would need better steel at a higher price...

Bang for the Buck
This knife is amazing. It has all the features of a much more expensive knife without the price of one. The g10 checkering on the handle fits snuggley in my hand, The blade comes shaving sharp out of the box, and it flicks out extremely fast for a un assisted blade. The only draw back to this knife is the blade steal. 8cr13mov steal is kinda on the soft side and my blade after a weeks worht of use is now no where near as sharp as it was out of the box. So if you plan on buying this knife id invest in a spyderco sharpining tool too.

Immediately became my every day carry knife
I should mention that I've owned serrated edge knives before from major production knife makers, but this is my first Spyderco. I can say that beyond all shadow of a doubt, I am exceedingly impressed with the factory edge that comes on this.This knife exceeds all expectations. I own knives by Microtech, Kershaw, Benchmade, Boker, and CRKT and several other makers. None of them has been such aggressive out of box cutter as this. I've been carrying this as part of my every day carry pretty much exclusively since I opened the box. The size and weight are perfect for me personally. Not so large as to get in my way, but large enough for pretty much any task I throw at it. The serrated edge retains it's edge extremely well.As far as the resharpening the blade, this hasn't been a factor as of yet, after several months, and hundreds of boxes it still retains an excellent edge.I have one quibble with this knife; the blade has no choil at it base. Super knife for the money
This knife is very well made, and looks like a much more expensive knife (parts, blade, finish and markings are higher-end quality - and you must see to appreciate). The fully serrated blade will be a great all purpose user and would also do as a very imposing self-defender (if needed). And, it's extremely sharp (as mentioned in other reviews). I can add, that tried to cut some 65 lb braided fishing line, and broke the cardinal rule of using any knife, I cut the line pulling toward me. When I did, it certainly cut the line, and also went about 1/4 thru my opposite hand thumb (which I was splicing braided line to mono). And, this did so with light cutting pressure. *************This knife is a circular saw.. So, for use as a workman's knife, you should attach a small and secure lanyard utilizing the lanyard hole, to wrap around your pinky if you plan on doing lots of sawing, or stab puncturing boxes etc. If one were not careful with this knife, a sweaty hand could slip forward...

Excellent value every day carry knife
The Tenacious is well-reviewed all over the Internet. It's a superior value knife--you get superb screw-construction, steel-lined, grippy G-10 handle, good blade steel, one-hand opening, great pocket clip, large opening Spyder hole, great ergonomic handle shape and thumb ramp jimping.Combo edge arrived very sharp (the plain edge portion perhaps not at legendary Spyderco sharpness), but was evenly ground at approx 30 degree inclusive. The Spyderedge serrations are excellent.Fits well clipped to jeans pocket. The closed length is just right--any longer and it might become uncomfortable when seated. When clipped with tip-down, the visible part of the knife is pretty significant, with about an inch of handle width and thumb ramp portion of blade showing. Switching to tip-up clip configuration would reduce that if that's a concern for you.Highly recommended. And will likely buy another for backup and edge variety.

Excellent knife,,,,Fantastic when price is considered
I originally purchased this knife 2 years ago and after only a month I gave it to a co-worker who was carrying a monumental piece of junk and could not afford any better. I had every intention of purchasing another but only recently replaced it. I have been carrying this knife again for the past few weeks and I refuse to part from this one. It is light weight, tight fitting, slim, sharp, and the blade deploys as fast as an open assisted knife. The ability to position the pocket clip in all four positions just add to the versatility of this knife. Too many lock back knives come the the pocket clip set to carry tip down and no way to change position. I prefer tip up so I can add a hangman noose lanyard to the knife making it easy to pull out of my pocket while sitting. The liner lock snaps into position very tight when the blade is opened, and there is no wiggle in the blade at all. gimping on the spine along with the rise in the back of the blade allow your thumb to stay in...

About the size
It's so difficult to judge how a knife will fit you when reading specs online. For the past several years, I've been carrying a Gerber Paraframe I as my EDC knife. After repeatedly misplacing it on one pair of jeans or another, I've finally decided to purchase a back-up. I ended up going with this Tenacious based on the excellent reviews and the economic price-point. Overall, I'm impressed with the knife. It's definitely a much better knife than my Gerber, and I will be switching to Spyderco as my primary EDC knife. However, I wasn't sure about the size when I first got it. In fact, my daughter, my wife and I all exclaimed at the size of this thing when I opened the box.One of the main factors contributing to the perception of this being a large knife is the fat blade. I also got the half serrated edge, which gives it more of a wicked/dangerous look to casual observers (i.e. folks in public, who aren't "knife people"). So compared to the Paraframe, this thing is a beast...

Can't stop the Resilience!
I'm a collector of knives mostly of the "big and beefy" variety. I love a big strong knife that carries as well as a smaller knife more suited towards EDC. I believe if a big blade is well balanced and carries well enough in the pocket that they can be just as comfortable as knives half their weight.I bought this and a Tenacious at the same time and they are my first spyderco knives (I'm a Kershaw/Zero Tolerance guy). I love them. Well built considering their low price point and Chinese origins. The attention to detail is there even if others would disagree. No, this knife is not of the same quality as my $120+ ZT knives nor do I expect them to be...but for the VALUE you are getting from this blade its hard to argue with it.The deployment is fast! The big blade creates a lot of inertia which cause it to fly out of the handle when you want yet has enough detent when closed to keep it from coming open in your pocket. This thing is huuuuge
Big knife. The blade is actually longer than my Recon 1. Comes razor sharp. Deployment is wicked fast. The retention isn't as strong as the Tenacious, probably because it's so much longer. No blade play opened at all. When closed, blade is dead center. very niiiiceHonestly though, as much as I love this knife, I really don't see myself using it for anything other than maybe food prep. It's too big to use in public, people would freak. Great knife for the money.
I bought this knife mainly because it was so cheap and what a pleasant surprise when it turned out to be far better than I expected. Razor sharp right out of the box, liner lock with lightening fast deployment , and only 5 ounces even on my postal scale. I was going to buy a Spyderco Police model but this knife is just as good and one quarter the price.

Major knife in a slim package
I'm a multitool person and generally consider a folding knife as a waste of space, until I see this one.The good:1) Very light. At 2.3 Oz this is probably the lightest folder with 3 1/8" blade. It's the single most important feature for me who wear slacks instead of jeans at work.2) Slim profile. Without the clip it's only 3/8", and with clip it's a little over 1/2". It doesn't create a visible bulge.3) G10 scales. G10 is a modern fiberglass that's both very light and tough it's practically indestructible. The particular scales here have non-slip surface that feels like coarse fabric, good to keep the knife in your hand when wet.4) Flipper. With little practice you can very quickly deploy the blade with just your index finger. The flipper also serves as finger guard preventing the blade from accidentally closing on you.5) Liner lock. It obviously keeps the blade in open position (very solid), but a bump on the lock also mates with a hole on...

Excellent pocket knife
I was looking for a small, secure assisted knife for pocket carry, and almost bought the Kershaw Leek -- a very popular knife -- for that purpose (I may still buy the Leek.)I am partial to Kershaw; they seem to try hard to give you extra value and workmanship for your money and their designs are solid. The Kershaw Blur, which I own and love, is a larger assisted folder that opens lightning fast and is an excellent value, but is more knife than I want to carry everyday, it's more for fending off ravaging grizzly bears and bill collectors.I generally prefer assisted opening knives, I don't care for flippers. And at first I thought I had made a mistake here. It would open and lock some of the time, but I couldn't get a consistent lock. Excellent first knife. Really excellent. Can it be from CHINA?
Sometimes globalization is not such a bad thing. Case in point, the twenty-five $ Spyderco Ambitious folding knife.Pros:2.25" 8CrMov13 blade steel - If you know nothing about stainless steels, don't worry, this is a good one. It comes extremely sharp out of the box and is easy to maintain that razor sharp edge. If you use it a lot it will need sharpening, but the upside is that it's extremely easy to sharpen with a simple sharpening stone or contraption. There are some high-end steels on the market that hold their edge longer, requiring less-often sharpening, but that comes at the cost of being harder to sharpen. Yes, sharpening can be tricky on some of the newer high-end steels like ZDP-189, so unless your'e an aficionado, 8CrMov13 will not disappoint.G10 handle material -Very good grip without being too "sticky" where it grabs the inside of your pocket making it harder to deploy. A very well made knife, but a bit mis-proportioned.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with this knife. It's well-designed, solidly built, razor sharp out of the box, and it opens/closes smoothly. It's a Spyderco, and it lives up to the name. If you want a shorter length Spyderco, this is a great knife at a great price, and you won't be disappointed.That said, part of me wishes I would have bought the Persistence or even the Tenacious instead. This isn't a knife you use for trimming threads off of a sweater -- it's a working knife. And the same things that makes this knife solid (big chunks of stainless steel in the liner, that awesome Spyderhole opener, relatively thick steel blade) make it heavy and bulky for EDC. Even though this is the smallest knife of the family, it's still a good two fingers wide (to accommodate the Spyderhole) and a finger thick with the clip. The only dimension that's shorter is the length. If you size up to the Tenacious, you get a whole lot more cutting edge for just a little more weight,...

Great little EDC knife
First off I will note that I am not going into the full details and features for this knife, as I have covered that in great depth with my Tenacious review (can be read here - [...]). Instead I will focus on the differences that the Ambitious has to the other Tenacious line of knives and the pros cons of that.Pros- Small. This knife is definitely small, and while it probably could be a tad lighter, I think its weight is plenty Ok for me. Mine weighs in at just a pinch over 3oz (3.023oz).- Looks. This knife just look neat, and if you have a Tenacious or any other knife in this family of Chinese folders from Spyderco, you will appreciate it's style and looks. It's essentially a scaled down version of its bigger siblings.- Proportionally scaled. What I mean by this is that the knife isn't just a shrunken version of the Tenacious or Persistence, it actually has its own special sizing and dimensions to make sure it remains functional at...
